Is a residential recording studio in the heart of the Lockyer Valley.

Situated on a 140-year-old former dairy farm, it's the dream getaway studio.

Bio

The Barn is all about vibe.

Our rural setting and accommodation options help to provide a relaxed atmosphere where artists can truly focus on the music.

The Barn's unique tracking room provides 11m x 12m of vibe and beautifully natural acoustics, allowing musicians to track in the same room while still keeping plenty of isolation. There is also a 3m x 2.5m iso room, and an amp closet.

The Barn is located 1 hour from the centre of Brisbane and less than 2km to shops, cafes and a pub.

GEAR

The Barn Recording Studio uses the best of classic and modern equipment to capture your performance.

Microphones include; Neumann, Sennheiser, Rode, BeesNeez, Electrovoice, AKG and many others. We have an extensive range of modern and classic, ribbon, large and small diaphragm condenser, dynamic and pzm microphones.

The console is a Sony SRP-V332, 32 channel, 8 buss production console. Beautifully clean with huge amounts of headroom. We record digitally using Pro Tools or straight analogue with a Studer A80 2" 24 track, or 1" 8 track.

We monitor through Genelec, NS10's, Sony Stereo, and 8 separate headphone sends for tracking. Audio passes through some lovely pre-amps including; Neve, Quad Eight, Analogue Addicts (60's valve), Germanium (60's), and Hand Crafted Labs (valve). We also have outboard including; Neve, DBX, Empirical Labs, TC Electronic and Universal Audio.

Instruments include a 6' Kawaii Grand piano, upright piano, a few different organs, a bass amp, guitar amps, a Martin acoustic and an Omnichord.

Vintage drum kits from Metro and Drouyn, with a large selection of cymbals and percussion.

RATES / FAQ

Our day rates with one engineer start at 750 p/d.

All days are 8hrs.

We are flexible on our rates, especially for multiple-day bookings.

Our goal is to help local artists to make amazing records.

Space Hire

250 for p/d. (350 for 12 hrs)

Space only, no mics, gear or audio engineer. Suitable for rehearsal or filming.

Filming

We can arrange filming on multiple Gopros inc online file delivery from 250 p/d.

Dry Hire

400 p/d

You are welcome to bring your own engineer to the studio. The first day may require a full day rate to allow us to help everybody get familiarised.

To Tape

Recording to tape is a special experience and is a little more intensive on time and gear.

50p/d to use tape on your session. Get in touch for multi day discounts.

Studio with Engineer

From 750 p/d.

We have a selection of experienced house engineers to suit your project. Larger projects may require an assitant engineer.

With Accom

Accommodation in the studio Cottage is available for artists from 90 p/n.

The Cottage sleeps 4 (arrangments can be made for more).

Own bedding and towels required. Discounts if 2 or more studio days booked.

The Barn has a 6' Kawai Grand piano that is free to use. It is tuned every few months. However if you require the piano at concert pitch, a fee may be payable.
We have a ton of local session musicians available, including our house engineers!
We have real drip filter coffee, not instant. With rainwater. Yum.
Food nearby? Yep. You'll feel like you're in the country, but there's a fast food (if that your thing) about 1.5k's away. There's a Woolworths about 2 k's away. There's a pizza joint, sushi, bakery with salad rolls, Coffee Club etc.. etc.
More food? Forest Hill is a tiny town nearby (8 mis drive) with two pubs, two EXCELLENT cafes/restaurant's (good for breakfast) and Thai that rivals anything in the city. There's also a Jam every second Sunday evening at one of the pubs.
